Why 'Cornerstone'?
The Bible records an enigmatic promise by God in the Old Testament:
In the Bible, the New Testament tells who fulfilled this ancient promise:
We believe it is Jesus Christ who is the 'cornerstone' of the universal and the local church. Our lives are lived through Him and our beliefs and practice are governed by his word, the Bible.
How we got here...
During the late 2000s and early 2010s, a core group of friends living in West Kent had been meeting together in temporary church accommodation for some time, sharing a common bond of Christian fellowship through God's saving grace and a common history of Christian life and experience in small to medium sized gospel and mission based churches.
During this period we offered up much prayer as to our future plans and mission and were convinced of the calling to be established as a church in the area. Throughout, our clear intention was not to compete with other established churches, but rather to be specifically located where a discrete gospel and teaching work could be carried out.
During this process of prayer and waiting we came into contact with the trustees of a church building in north Tonbridge who were looking to pass the building on, ideally to a group who would continue a Christian work in that neighbourhood which, through an earlier associated mission hall, had its origins back in the 1920s.
In 2010 we concluded purchase of the Gospel Hall and now operate as a Bible-believing Christian church named Cornerstone Christian Fellowship.
